Hi there and welcome!
My name is Kelly and I am an author, recipe developer, photographer, food blogger and mom of two.
I have been following a low carb / ketogenic lifestyle since December 2016 to help me battle some autoimmune and gut issues I began experiencing after having my youngest daughter.
I am here to share my journey, encourage others and share tips along with low carb and ketogenic friendly recipes in hopes that I can help YOU with your ketogenic lifestyle journey.
WHY I BEGAN FOLLOWING A KETOGENIC LIFESTYLE?
I’ve always considered myself to be pretty healthy. I was very active and consumed a mainly plant-based and refined sugar-free diet.
After having my second child in 2014, I started feeling tired all the time and developing sensitives to certain foods.
Like many moms I knew, I pushed my needs and health to the bottom and didn’t always have time to take care of myself.
I am the type of person that feels bad asking for help so I tried to do it all. ….Being a loving mom to both of my kids, a compassionate wife to my working husband, running a clean and organized household while continuing to fuel my passion to grow my online business, Life Made Sweeter – which eventually led to writing my first cookbook.
This meant I would often skip meals and stay up extremely late (while also pulling many many all-nighters) just to keep up.
In 2016, I suffered a very serious allergic reaction that lasted for more than 6 months. I could hardly stand up or walk without feeling extremely dizzy, my face had broken out into hives and my vision was extremely foggy.
If you know me well, not having any energy or being able to stand is the COMPLETE opposite of how I am.
On a normal day, you would often find me running around on full speed trying to get everything done while trying to cram in a yoga or strength-training session at the end of the day almost 6-7 days a week.
In fact, my husband often jokes that I have “ants in my pants” because I can hardly sit-down to relax for even ONE minute.
My symptoms continued to get worse and there were many many doctors’ and hospital visits that led to nowhere.
Without knowing what was wrong or how to fix it, this was an extremely terrifying few months for my family and I.
Meanwhile, I was doing my own research and suspected that I had a leaky gut caused (in my case) mainly by stress, no sleep and a very low fat and low protein diet.
But it turns out with all the stress, responsibilities of running a blog, writing a cookbook and everything else going on in my life – I had to change my diet – cut back on all carbs (even from fruit & veggies) and incorporate more fat in order to get better.
That’s when I started reading about the many stories and benefits of starting a ketogenic lifestyle.
I have always been pretty lean so weight-loss was NOT at all part of my goal.
The one thing that grabbed my attention is that following a ketogenic lifestyle could help to heal a leaky gut along with many other benefits like improving brain fog, increased energy, helps to fight some cancers and decrease in inflammation – so I decided to give it a try.
After the initial month of taking that leap of faith, I started noticing an improvement right away.
Fast forward to 2018 and I can happily say I am on the road to finally feeling like my old active self again.
And although I don’t know if I can ever fully recover from the damage I had caused over the years, my symptoms are much MUCH better.
Life Made Keto was started so that I could share a few tips and my favorite low carb and keto recipes that have helped me on my journey in hopes that they can help you with yours ❤
